1. At the invitation of H.E. Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, the ninth General Cooperation Meeting was held between the League of Arab States and the African Union Commission on February 1, 2021 at the headquarters of the League of Arab States’ General Secretariat in Cairo, under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit and H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mohamed, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, with the participation of senior officials from both sides.

Addis Ababa, 1 February 2021: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat commends the United Nations-facilitated Libyan Dialogue Forum (LPDF) and the Libyan people as LPDF delegates begin to vote on 1-5 February 2021 in Geneva, for candidates to serve in a new interim government.

The Chairperson commends the transparent process of nomination for candidates to serve in a new unified interim government, which includes posts for the presidential council and the post of prime minister, expected to oversea national elections scheduled for 24 December 2021.

Addis Ababa, 30 January 2021: Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomes the announcement by the Government of South Sudan approving the establishment of the AU Hybrid Court of South Sudan as per the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan of 2018.
