Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 20th June 2018: Following recent reports published in African and international media in relation to allegations made concerning incidences of harassment of women at the African Union Commission (AUC), the Chairperson of the AUC, Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat has appointed a High Level Committee to investigate the allegations and to provide a comprehensive report on their findings and submit appropriate recommendations for remedial action.

Addis Ababa, 28 June 2018: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the Khartoum Declaration Agreement between the Parties to the Conflict in South Sudan, signed on 27 June 2018. He urges the South Sudanese stakeholders to sustain the momentum set by this Agreement, in order to end the suffering of their people and bring about lasting peace and reconciliation. He welcomes the declaration of a permanent ceasefire and takes note of the invitation extended to Member States to deploy the necessary forces to supervise this ceasefire.

18, June 2018, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia- African Union Commission Deputy Chairperson Amb. Kwesi Quartey today held bilateral talks with Ms. Annette Dixon, the Vice President for Human Development at the World Bank. Amb. Kwesi welcomed Ms. Annette’s presence at the African Union headquarters, in her maiden visit to Africa. The meeting acknowledged the importance of advancing the quality of human capacity, as a strategic approach to Africa’s structural transformation.

Addis Ababa, 23 June 2018: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has learned with shock and dismay of the attack that took place today during a peaceful rally in Addis Ababa in support of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s reform agenda. He strongly condemns this cowardly attack against civilians at a peaceful rally under the banner of peace and reconciliation.

Chairperson Faki extends his sincere condolences to the families of the victims who lost and their lives and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

Addis Ababa, 24 June 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the cowardly bomb attack that took place yesterday at a campaign rally in the city of Bulawayo attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He wishes a speedy recovery to those who were injured during this senseless act of violence, which cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Addis Ababa, 24 June 2018: As part of his consultative missions in the region, as well as the preparation of the African Union Summit scheduled in Nouakchott on 1 and 2 July, the Chairperson of the Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, travelled to Tindouf, to meet with the authorities of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, from 19 to 21 June 2018. He was received by President Brahim Ghali, with whom he had an in-depth exchange of views. He also met with Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
