Kigali Rwanda, 19th March 2018: The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area will result in a unified market of over 1,2 billion people with a combined gross product of over US$3 trillion, said H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, in his address during the 18th Executive Council on African Continental Free Trade Area. He added that it would result in an increase in intra-African trade of 52 per cent by 2022 and culminate in substantial improvements of the lives of Africans.

Thomas Kwesi Quartey, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), congratulated the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) on 15 March 2018 while delivering his closing remarks at the meeting of the PRC holding in the Kigali Convention Center. The address was done at the end of a day-long heated debate and exchange of views in preparation of the Tenth Extraordinary Summit on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), hosted by the Republic of Rwanda on 21 March 2018.

Kigali, 16 March 2018: African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, today, to take part in the African Union Extraordinary Summit on the African Continental Free Trade Area, on 21 March 2018, as well as in preparatory meetings at the level of the Permanent Representatives Committee and the Executive Council. He will also take part in the Business Forum that will be held on the margins of the Summit, and take the opportunity to interact with private sector representatives.
