African Union mourns the death of Aretha Franklin

Washington, August 16, 2018- The African Union Permeant Representative to the United States of America, Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quoa, has expressed profound sadness at the death of global music icon Aretha Franklin, who passed away today at her home in Detroit, USA.

Ms Franklin had batted Pancreatic Cancer for a long time and was visited by dozens of luminaries in the last few days of her life. She was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of her death.

Starting 2018, African CRVS Day will be celebrated every year on the 10th of August, to increase public awareness of the importance of making all African people visible wherever they live, through well-functioning civil registration and vital statistics systems.

A Consultative workshop on Promoting Regional Integration in the Control of Tsetse and Trypanosomosis (T&T) in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) took place on 6-7 August 2018 at Ngonemono Hotel, in Libreville, Gabon. The meeting was attended by ECCAS member states, including Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, DRC and Chad. In addition, three staff members from the AU-PATTEC coordination office, a consultant from ECCAS, a non-tsetse transmitted trypanosomosis expert and the Livestock Director of CEBEVIRHA attended the meeting.
