Addis Ababa, 9 November 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, received Mr. Souef Mohamed El-Amine, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Integration of the Union of the Comoros, in Addis Ababa, on 8 November 2017.

During the meeting, the Comorian Minister gave an update on the political situation in his country and the planned organization of a national dialogue, in Moroni, starting from 12 November 2017. In this regard, the Minister requested the accompaniment and support of the African Union.

Addis Ababa, 9 November 2017: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, paid an official visit to the Republic of Sudan from 5 to 7 November. His delegation included the Commissioner for Social Affairs, Amira El-Fadil, and other African Union officials.

Commissioner for Social Affairs of the African Union Commission paid the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN) and the Malian authorities a two-day working visit.

Lusaka, Zambia – 7 November 2017. The Department of Trade and Industry of the African Union Commissionis organizing the 1st African Union Symposium on Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Industrial Development from 7 to 10 November 2017. The objective of the forum is to provide a platform for policy makers, practitioners, financial institutions, investors and academia to exchange views and experiences on how SEZs can be utilized as vehicles for industrialization in African countries. Particular emphasis will be placed on environmental-friendly manufacturing SEZs promotion.

Johannesburg, 07 November 2017- The African Union’s Partnership and Coordination Forum on AIDS, TB and Malaria last week reviewed the draft Common Africa Position on TB for the United Nations General Assembly High Level Meeting on TB that is scheduled to take place in 2018. The Draft Common Africa Position on TB was last month reviewed by the Ministry of Health TB Programme Managers in Harare.

African countries launch framework to tackle the threat of antibiotic resistant infections

Annecy, 07 November 2017- Africa CDC launched its framework to fight antibiotic resistant infections during the eighth edition of the Advanced Courses on Diagnostics convened by the Fondation Mérieux. Antibiotic resistant infections occur when bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms change in ways that make medications ineffective against them. In Africa, antibiotic resistance is already a major problem for malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid, meningitis, gonorrhea, and dysentery.

Media statement on false media reports attributed to the African Union Commission

Addis Abeba, 7 November 2017: The African Union Commission has learnt of the existence of a report circulating on social media purporting to be an official media statement attributed to the African Union regarding the recent runoff election in Kenya, and remarks attributed to President Alpha Conde of Guinea who is also the Chairperson of the Union.

The above report is false, and the AUC distances itself from this malicious report which is neither dated nor published with the official AUC letterhead.
