Three new Ambassadors have presented their Credential Letter to the AU Commission Chairperson
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 09 January 2017: Three new Ambassadors to the African Union presented on Tuesday, 09 January 2018, their letters of Credence to H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission during an audience granted by the AUC Chairperson at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They are: one new Permanent Representative from Ethiopia and two Non-AU Members States Ambassadors from New Zeeland and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on Equatorial Guinea
Addis Ababa, 9 January 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, received the Permanent Representative of Equatorial Guinea to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Simeon Oyono Esono, yesterday.
The Permanent Representative informed the Commission of recent developments in his country. In this regard, he stated that the Equatorial Guinean authorities had foiled an attempted coup involving foreign mercenaries.

Addis Ababa, 4 January 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the announcement made by the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Repubic of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn, pardoning or suspending ongoing judicial cases of members of political parties and other individuals. He commends the Ethiopian authorities for this important and farsighted decision, and for their commitment to foster national consensus and widen the democratic space.

Addis Ababa, 3 January 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, notes with serious concern the incidents that took place in Kinshasa and other locations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on 31 December 2017. He deplores the loss of life reported during those incidents and emphasizes the need to shed light on any abuses committed by the police, so that the perpetrators of these acts can be held accountable.

2017 has been a particularly eventful year, with the assumption of duty of a new Commission. I have had the privilege of serving with a diverse group of individuals over the past nine months, and the results have been encouraging.
