The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received the President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), Honourable Justice Blaise Tchikaya, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
They discussed strengthening cooperation between the AU Commission & the ACHPR in advancing the continental human rights and justice architecture.

The Chairperson conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Botswana, paying tribute to President Mogae’s distinguished leadership, commitment to democracy, & contribution to Africa’s development and unity.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission met with H.E. Mamadou Tangara, High Representative for Mali and the Sahel, to exchange views on recent developments in the region. H.E. Amb. Selma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission convened a consultation meeting yesterday with Regional Deans and the Overall Dean as well as the Ambassador of Zambia in his capacity as Vice-Chair of the Sub-Committee on General Supervision.
The consultation is part of the ongoing preparatory process on the AU Budget for 2027 and scale of assessment for 2027-2029 and to strengthen coordination with Member States to ensure a collective voice in the upcoming Policy Organs deliberations.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission met with H.E. Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mali. Their discussions focused on recent developments in Mali and the wider Sahel region. The Chairperson reaffirmed the African Union’s full solidarity with Mali following the events of 25 April 2026. Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue in support of Mali’s efforts towards stability, good governance and development, in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063.
