AUC and GESCI Partner on ICT Integration in Education and Youth Skills Development

The future of technology-driven social economic development requires paradigm shifts in the delivery of education and skills development in Africa. On 18th to 19th August, the AUC HRST department met with the Global E-Schools and Communities Initiative (GESCI) to discuss partnership towards leveraging ICTs for enhancing access, quality and relevance of education and skills acquisition for Africa’s development.

The 9th Steering Committee Meeting of the African Internet Exchange System Project took place on 28 July 2016 at headquarters of ECOWAS in Abuja, Nigeria.
The steering Committee met to discuss the implementation progress & challenges and to provide a strategic advice on the way forward. The members has also visited Abuja Point of presence of Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria. Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria is one of the 8 IXPs supported with grants by AXIS Project so far to grow into Regional Internet Exchange Point.

Addis Ababa, 17 August 2016: The AUC division of Human Resources and Youth Development hosted senior representatives from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the program, ‘Strengthening coordination to increase access to Sexual Reproductive Health Services and Rights (SRHR) for young people in Africa’ which the David and Lucille Packard Foundation has been supporting over the past 2 years and being implemented by the Human resources and Youth Division together with the International Planned Parenthood Federation African Region (IPPFAR).

NIGERIA, ABUJA 8th – 12th August, 2016 - Africa Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) team took part in the 6th AFENET Scientific Conference under the theme, ‘Enhancing Global Health Security through Field Epidemiology Training Programs. The conference which is the largest meeting to discuss public health issues in Africa, was held in Abuja, Nigeria.

International remittances has become a major source of foreign currencies for most of African countries and have been found to be more stable and dependable than other forms of foreign currency inflows such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Overseas Development Aid (ODA). In 2015, African economies received - both from overseas and Intra-African corridors – officially recorded remittances amounting to US$ 66 billion.
