The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received H.E. @Haavisto, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for #Sudan. He congratulated him on his appointment & reaffirmed the AU’s readiness to work closely with the UN in advancing a coordinated response.

The Chairperson underscored the AU’s sustained engagement in Sudan, emphasising that any political process must be Sudanese-owned & inclusive. Mr. Haavisto commended the AU’s leadership in mediation efforts & pledged full cooperation.

The Continental Consultation on CAADP Kampala Result Framework and Biennial Review (BR) Indicators successfully concluded in Windhoek, Namibia, held from 24-27 March 2026. The Four-day consultation workshop brought together African Union Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and technical experts, to consider and review a harmonized framework for tracking progress on the Compressive Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Strategy and Action Plan (2026-2035).

Nabil Fahmy on his appointment as Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), describing him as “a highly respected diplomat” with “a wealth of experience” and a strong commitment to multilateralism”.

Reaffirming the African Union’s long-standing relations with the League of Arab States, the AUC Chairperson underscored the importance of AU–LAS cooperation in advancing peace, security, and sustainable development across both regions.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission warmly welcomes the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of resolution A/80/L.48, led by the Republic of Ghana, declaring the trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity.

The AUC Chairperson commends H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana for this important leadership, which reflects Africa’s longstanding and principled call for the full recognition of the slave trade and its enduring consequences.
