In February 2025, the African Union Assembly declared the Decade of Accelerated Action for the Transformation of Education and Skills Development in Africa (2025–2034), a high-level political commitment to place education, science, technology, and innovation at the centre of Africa’s socio-economic transformation, industrialization, and peacebuilding agenda.

The African Governance Architecture and African Peace and Security Architecture (AGA-APSA) Platform today commenced its 2026 Statutory Political Meeting in Addis Ababa, with a strong call for accelerated action to translate continental policy commitments into tangible results and to place youth empowerment at the heart of Africa’s governance and peace agenda.

At the opening session of the 48th AU Executive Council, AUC Chairperson H.E. @ymahmoudali underscored “the urgency of institutional reform, & the imperative of peace and development on the continent” ahead of the 39th AU Assembly.

On #Water & sanitation; this year’s theme, he stressed that it “must be protected as a shared resource & a driver of cooperation” amid #climatechange.

“Reforms are advancing under the 2024–2028 Plan,” he added, including progress on the peace & security architecture, sustainable financing, & institutional strengthening.

The African Union Commission (AUC), has convened the First Statutory 2026 meeting of the African Governance Architecture-African Peace and Security Architecture (AGA-APSA) Platform. The Technical meeting held from 9-10 February at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aimed to discuss flagship activities of the AGA-APSA, discuss the 2026 workplan implementation by the AGA-APSA Secretariat and endorse the revised AGA-APSA Rules of Procedure.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. @ymahmoudali, today bid farewell to H.E. Daniel Owassa, Ambassador of the Republic of #Congo & Permanent Representative to the AU.

The Chairperson commended Ambassador Owassa’s dedicated engagement in AU deliberations, including his leadership on the Permanent Representatives Committee (PSC) & his continued advocacy for institutional reform.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the AU–UNIDO partnership. The Chairperson underscored industrialisation as a cornerstone of Africa’s transformation, drawing on lessons from Asia and China, and emphasised the need to align Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030 to accelerate manufacturing-led growth across the continent
