The African Union Commission (AUC) officially launched a crucial four-day Validation Workshop for the Continental Data Governance Frameworks today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The workshop brings together experts from AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and key partners to review and finalize the draft frameworks on Data Categorisation& Data Sharing, Cross-Border Data Flows, and the Continental Open Data Strategy.

The Executive Committee for the Strategy for the Harmonization of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA II) successfully kicked off its crucial meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 26 December 2025. Hosted by Ethiopian Statistics Service, the meeting brought together distinguished representatives from AU organs, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), National Statistical Offices (NSOs), and development partners to review progress and strengthen the framework for a robust, modern, and coherent African Statistical System (ASS).

The Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union (AU) to the United Nations (UN) On November 26, 2025, hosted a one-day retreat for the African Group of Permanent Representatives to the UN. The retreat provided a platform to deliberate and exchange views on the UN80 Initiative, under the theme: “Strategic African Response to the UN80 Reform Initiative.” Participants included Deputy Permanent Representatives (DPRs), experts, African Group Coordinators of United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) Committees, and staff from the AU Permanent Observer Mission.
