The African Union (AU) asserted its leadership in the global Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda during the week-long commemoration of the Silver Anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York which kicked off on October 27, 2025. The AU’s message, unified and non-negotiable, centered on translating two decades of commitment into verifiable accountability and transformative influence on the ground.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, joined H.E. President @IsmailOguelleh of #Djibouti, H.E. President @HassanSMohamud of #Somalia, Somali leaders, and other dignitaries at today’s commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the #Arta Peace Conference on Somalia.

The Chairperson hailed the commemoration as a vital tribute to the memory of a nation, noting that such moments remind us not only of what was achieved, but also of the sacrifices, courage, & collective wisdom that made progress possible.

The Third Financing Summit for Africa’s Infrastructure Development opened today in Luanda with a resounding call to action from African leaders, who emphasized that unlocking the continent’s full potential as a global growth engine depends on bridging its vast infrastructure financing gap.

This commitment was made during a high-level workshop held in Dakar, Senegal, from 22nd – 23rd October 2025, organised by the African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU CIEFFA), in collaboration with the UN Women Regional Office for West Africa and UN Women AULO.
