At the Climate & Nature: #Forests & #Oceans side event at #COP30 this morning, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, addressed leaders on the vital role of forests & oceans in #climate action.

He underscored “the inseparable link between climate balance, forests, & oceans,” noting that Africa, which holds 17% of the world’s forests & vast marine ecosystems, “is central to global climate action, yet receives less than 5% of adaptation finance.”

At Belém, Brazil, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, addressed the leaders summit, & underscored that Africa arrives at #COP30 “with conviction,” affirming that “the continent is an agent of transformation.” He noted that “from solar fields to green innovators by the youth across our continent, Africa is leading the way towards a just, inclusive, low-carbon future.”

The African Inclusive Markets Excellence Centre (AIMEC) successfully convened its inaugural Strategic Planning Workshop in Tunis, Tunisia, from 28 to 30 October 2025. The pivotal three-day meeting solidified the Centre's operational framework and charted a clear roadmap for its activities, positioning it as a key driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth in line with Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The African Union (AU), through its Office of the Legal Counsel (OLC), convened on 3 November 2025 a Post-Advisory Opinion Workshop on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Member States’ representatives, AU organs, and international legal experts were also allowed to join virtually.

The African Union Commission (AUC), through its Directorate of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy, officially opened the Inaugural Africa Biodiversity Summit at the Royal Aria Convention Centre in Gaborone, Botswana. The opening of the technical session, held 2-3 November 2025, brought together delegates from AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), United Nations agencies, research institutions, development partners, civil society, and youth organizations.
