Statement by the Chairperson of the Commission on the barbaric attack recently perpetrated by the Boko Haram terrorist group in Chad
Addis Ababa, 22 July 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, learned with shock of the news of the attack perpetrated last Thursday by elements of the Boko Haram terrorist group against civilians in a Chadian locality in the Lake Chad Basin, not far from the border with Niger. He strongly condemns this barbaric attack, in which several people, including children, were slaughtered, with others were wounded or abducted.

July 17, 2018, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; As part of the revamped strategy to stem illicit financial flows (IFFs) from Africa, the IFF Working Group (IWG) met at the African Union Headquarters, to discuss the practical implementation of the recommendations of the AU/ECA High Level Panel Report on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa, also known as the ‘Mbeki Report’. The meeting deliberated on effective steps to fulfil the Special Declaration adopted by the AU Assembly in 2015, on IFFs from Africa.
Readout of the visit of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to Cameroon
Addis Ababa, 16 July 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, undertook a 48-hour official visit to Cameroon from 12 to 14 July 2018. During his stay, he was received by President Paul Biya, with whom he had a long and substantive exchange of views during a one-to-one meeting followed by a working lunch. He also met with Prime Minister Philemon Yang and Minister of External Relations Lejeune Mbella Mbella.

Addis Ababa, 13 July 2018: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has appointed Professor Carlos Lopes as his High Representative to support Member States in the negotiation of a new agreement with the European Union post-2020, taking into account the expiration of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement and the decisions of the AU-EU Summit held in Abidjan in November of 2017. This appointment was welcomed by the just-concluded African Union Summit in Nouakchott.
