Morocco did not attend or address the 27th AU Summit in Kigali, Rwanda

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 25 July 2016: The African Union Commission seeks to clarify that the Kingdom of Morocco did not attend or address the 27th Assembly of Heads of State and Government that was held on 17-18 July 2016, in Kigali, Rwanda.

However, President Idriss Deby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad and current Chairperson of the African Union informed the Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, that he had received a correspondence from the King of Morocco, H.M. Mohammed VI, regarding the intention of Morocco to join the African Union (AU).

Kigali, Rwanda 18 July 2016 - The 27th African Union (AU) Summit came to a successful conclusion on Monday, July 18, 2016, with Heads of State and Government from AU Member countries making a common call for togetherness, inclusive growth and economic develop through Agenda 2063.

The Heads of State also adopted recommendations of the Retreat on financing the Union, which seeks to empower the Union by driving it towards financial independence and external influences.

São Tomé, São Tomé and Príncipe July 17th 2016: In a country of 200,000 inhabitants almost 101,164 Sao Tomeans in the country and 10,058 in the diaspora began voting today 17th July 2016, around the 311 existing polling stations to elect their future President for the next five years. Following a three day training, the AU observers will observe the opening of the polling stations and the voting process.
