H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, received H.E. Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, Former President of the International Court of Justice & founding President of the African Institute of International Law (AIIL), at AU Headquarters.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation under the existing MoU, the Institute’s request for Specialised Agency status, & the establishment of an AU Fellowship Programme in African Union law & African public law.

The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) has opened its 2026 Judicial Year with a renewed call for African Union Member States to deepen their commitment to justice, ratify the Protocol establishing the Court and fully implement its judgments in good faith, as the Court marks 20 years of protecting human and peoples’ rights across the continent.

The African Union Commission (AUC), in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Botswana and development partners, commemorated the 11th Anniversary of the African Day of School Feeding (ADSF) in Gaborone, Botswana, under the theme “Ensuring Access to Nutritious Meals, Clean Water, and Hygiene: Promoting Safety and Resilience in Every School Meal Investment.” The event served as a key milestone in evaluating the progress made over the past decade in implementing school feeding programs across the continent and reaffirming commitments to sustaining and scaling up these initiative
