Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 3 February 2017- The First meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee on Transport, Transcontinental and Interregional Infrastructures, Energy and Tourism will be held from 13-17 March 2017 in Lomé, the Togolese capital under the theme “Financing Infrastructure in Africa”.
Two New Judges Appointed to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights
Arusha, 3 February, 2017: At the just-ended 28th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 30-31 January 2017, appointed two Judges to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights for a period of six years.
The Judges are Hon. Justice Bensaoula Chafika from Algeria and Hon. Justice Chizumila Rose Tujilane from Malawi. The two are replacing Hon. Justice Fatsah Ouguergouz (Algeria) and Hon. Justice Duncan Tambala (Malawi) whose term came to an end on 5 September, 2016.
President Alpha Conde of Guinea Has Been Elected New Chairperson of the African Union (AU)
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 30 January 2017: The new Chairperson of the African Union (AU), H.E. Mr. Alpha Conde, President of the Republic of Guinea, was elected today, Monday 30 January 2017, by the Heads of State and Government of the African Union, during their 28th Ordinary Session holding in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
President Alpha Conde is taking over from H.E. Mr. Idriss Deby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad as the new Chairperson of the African Union for the year 2017.
The 28TH Ordinary Session of the AU Summit opens in Addis Ababa against the backdrop of renewed commitment for peace and unity in the continent
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 30 January 2017- The 28th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), officially opened today at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with a strong call for unity to uphold the maintenance of peace and stability in the continent.
Hon Moussa Faki Mahamat elected as incoming Chair of the African Union Commission
Addis Ababa. Ethiopia. 30 January 2017- Chadian Foreign Minister Hon. Moussa Faki Mahamat has been elected incoming Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission by AU heads of State and Government, who form the Assembly of the African Union.
Ghana’s Ambassador Thomas Kwesi Quartey was elected Deputy Chairperson.
Elections for the eight Commissioner posts are ongoing.
