Le Président de la Commission de l’Union africaine est le plus haut responsable, le représentant légal de l’Union africaine et l’Ordonnateur principal du budget de la Commission. Il ou elle est directement responsable devant le Conseil exécutif dans l’exercice de ses fonctions. Le président est élu par la Conférence pour un mandat de quatre ans, renouvelable une fois. L’élection se fait par vote secret et à la majorité des deux tiers des États membres ayant le droit de vote.
