INVITATION TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What: Journalists are invited to attend the opening session of the 29th Summit of The African Peer Review Forum (APR ) of Heads of State and Government.

When: 8th February 2020. 1500 hours.

Venue: African Union Commission, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Who: The opening session will include statements from;

- H.E. Idriss DEBY ITNO - President of the Republic of Chad, also Chairperson of the African Peer Review (APR) Forum

- H.E. Abdel Fattah EL-SISI - President of the Republic of Egypt, also Chairperson of the African Union;

- H.E. Moussa Faki MAHAMAT - Chairperson of the African Union Commission;

- Prof. Ibrahim GAMBARI - Chairperson of the African Peer Review Panel of Eminent Persons;

Why: The Summit of the APR Forum is convened annually on the margins of the African Union (AU) Summit to take stock of the African Peer Review Mechanism progress as a voluntary arrangement amongst African states to systematically assess and review governance in the continent.
The summit will also conduct elections of the new Troika and Handover to the Republic of South Africa as the Chair of the APR Forum of Heads of State and Government as well as the accession of new panel member states.
Background:
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is a voluntary arrangement amongst African states to systematically assess and review governance at Head of State peer level in order to promote political stability, accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration, economic growth and sustainable development.
