On August 11, 2011, Her Excellency Ambassador Amina S. Ali, Permanent Representative of the African Union Mission to the USA paid a courtesy visit to Honorable Vincent C. Gray. The two personalities discussed following common critical issues:

* Security in terms of combatting crimes and drug abuse,
* Health, with a focus on prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDs,
* Important role of the African Diaspora, especially to boost trade and promote business between African and America

They firmely agreed that the two offices are going to work closely on projects of mutual benefits. The first activity would be the joint organization, next year of the Annual DC Africa Festival.
