Nairobi, Kenya 5 May 2016 – “Karibuni sana…” it is with this warm greetings in Kiswahili that Amb. (DR.) Amina C. Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, welcomed her peers, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the African Union (AU) Member States, during the reception cocktail organised on 5th May 2016, at the eve of the 4th Retreat of the Executive Council in Nairobi. The event took place in the presence of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, the Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E Mr. Erastus Mwencha, the AU Commissioners and other officials and staff of the AU Commission.
The Government of Kenya is hosting the two- day Ministerial Retreat that will kick off on Friday 6 May 2016 following a decision of the AU Heads of State and Government who directed the African Union Commission at their Summit in January 2016, to organize another retreat…”to allow for in-depth discussion on the paradox of rich Africa, poor Africans, on changing mind-set and other relevant issues.”
“In the coming two days, we shall engage each other in exploring this paradox in the light of the envisioned Agenda 2063, and the restructuring of the African Union, amongst other issues. Our deliberations and outcomes will have the effect of shaping the future of our continent and individual nations” stressed Minister Amina.
The Kenyan Minister invited her colleagues to create time during the Retreat to experience the rich culture, cuisine, flora and fauna, of her country as well as visit the National Archives, the National Park and the National Museum of Kenya, among other historical areas.
“Nairobi, the host city for this retreat, is part of the larger rich heritage that our country holds in trust for humanity” concluded Minister Amina. (See complete speech of Minister Amina Mohamed on the AU website: www.au.int )
