INVITATION TO MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES

 

What:                        The General Assembly of the African Union (AU) Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) to elect new Bureau members and discuss agenda items of the Institution.     

 

When:                        27-31 March 2017

 

Where:                       The meetings will be held at the Ramses Hilton Hotel in Cairo, Egypt

 

Who:                          Organised by the Citizens and Diaspora Organizations Directorate (CIDO) of the AU Commission.

 

Participants:            Includes representatives of Civil Society Organizations (NGOs) in the ECOSOCC from African Union Member States.

 

Participants attending this important event are advised to carry along a valid Yellow Fever Certificate as they may be required to produce the document at the airport.

 

Objectives:              

 

The General Assembly will have the following objectives:

 

  1. Review progress of 2ndGeneral Assembly of ECOSOCC including

activities reports and program of action for Clusters, Credentials

Committee, Standing Committee and Bureau.

  1. Approve the proposed amendments of the ECOSOCC Statutes.
  2.  Finalize and approve all policy documents of ECOSOCC including the draft Strategic Plan.
  3.  Finalize and approve the framework document for accreditation of civil organizations to the African Union as directed by Executive Council
  4.  Finalize and approve the framework document for national chapters as directed by Executive Council
  5.  Finalize and approve the strategy for popularization of agenda 2063 at national level as directed by Executive Council;
  6. Finalize and approve the composition and terms of reference for ECOSOCC Disciplinary Committee and its rules and regulations;
  7. Elect members of the ECOSOCC Bureau and the Standing Committee.
  8. Orientation direction for newly elected members;

 

Expected outcomes:

 

Top on the agenda of the ECOSOCC will be the election of the new bureau members of the ECOSOCC and members of the Standing Committee.

 

Journalists are invited to cover the ECOSOCC General Assembly from 27 – 31 March 2017 at the Ramses Hotel in Cairo, Egypt.

The Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) is an advisory body of the African Union designed to give civil society organizations (CSOs) a voice within the AU institutions and decision-making processes. ECOSOCC is made up of civil society organizations from a wide range of sectors including labor, business and professional groups, service providers and policy think tanks, both from within Africa and the African diaspora.
