AU Commission Chairperson sends condolences to Colombia following flood disaster

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 3 April 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat sends his deepest condolences to the Government and people of Colombia following the flood disaster which has claimed over 200 lives, destroyed property and left an unaccountable number of people missing as well as others homeless.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission said it is with deep sorrow that he learned of the disaster which took place on Sunday, 2 April 2017. On behalf of the African Union and the rest of the continent, he extended his sympathy and condolences to President Juan Manuel Santos, the affected families and the people of Colombia.

The flood disaster is reported to have resulted from heavy rains that led to massive displacements of mud and debris in communities in the Southern part of the country.
Africa stands in solidarity with the People of Colombia during these difficult times.
