Africa – EU Civil Society Forum will be held in Tunis

What: African and European Civil Society Forum, organized in the framework of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES), by African and European civil society supported by the African Union’s Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (AU/CIDO) and the European Union (EU).

When:
Journalists are invited to attend the following segments:
- Opening Session: 11 July at 9:30 am
- Closing Session : 13 July at 12:00 pm
- Press conference: 13 July at 12:30 pm
Where: Golden Tulip Carthage Tunis (Avenue de la Promenade BP 606, 2078 La Marsa)

Who: The forum will bring together civil society organizations from both continents to discuss future priorities in light of external challenges and opportunities at global and regional levels and make specific recommendations to deliver to governments ahead of the upcoming 5th Africa-EU Summit, including future participation of civil society on specific thematic clusters: conflict prevention, peacebuilding and refugees; human development; sustainable future for our planet; decent work, universal social protection and sustainable socio-economic development; and democratic governance and civic participation.

Why: The Joint Africa–EU Strategy (JAES) is based on shared values and aims at promoting common interests and achieving shared strategic objectives. It strives to bring Africa and Europe closer together through the strengthening of economic cooperation and the promotion of sustainable development and climate action, with both continents living side by side in peace, security, democracy, prosperity, solidarity and human dignity. The African Union and European Union are working jointly in the lead-up to the upcoming 5th Africa-EU Summit that will be held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in November 2017.
