AU Envoy arrives in Sierra Leone to show solidarity and hand over material support.

Addis Ababa, 23 August 2017: The African Union Commission Chairperson H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat’s envoy to Sierra Leone arrived in Freetown to assess firsthand the damage caused by the 15 August 2015 landslide and also hand over material support to the national emergency response authorities.

AU Commissioner for Social Affairs H.E. Amira Elfadil arrived in Freetown on 22 August 2017 to express the AUC’s full solidarity with and support to the people and Government of Sierra Leone. H.E. Ms Elfadil will hand over a cheque of USD 100,000 as part of the AUC contribution to the national response effort following the 15 August 2017 mudslide that has killed at least 500 people, left over 600 people missing and thousands displaced from their homes. The AUC will also hand over three vehicles to the Government of Sierra Leone to support the rescue efforts.

The African Union Commission is part of the humanitarian partners task force and the H.E. Commissioner Ms. Elfadil’s visit includes availing the services and support of AfricaCDC to the Government of Sierra Leone.
