AU-RECs-ECA-AfDB Coordination Committee

The Africa Union Commission (AUC) holds AU-RECs-UNECA-AFDB-NEPAD-ACBF Joint Expert Coordination meetings twice in a year, one at technical level and another at Experts level, within the framework of the Protocol on Relations between the AU and the RECs signed in 2008.

The Expert Coordination meeting provides recommendations for the Chief Executives of the AU, RECs, UNECA, AfDB and other strategic institutions to discuss the regional dimensions of the Ten-Year implementation Plan of Agenda 2063, Flagship projects, roles and capacities, among other important issues.

The expected participants for the Expert Coordination Meeting include the Experts from the Regional Economic Communities, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), New Partnership for Africa’s Development Coordinating Agency (NPCA) and Government Officials in charge of Integration from Kenya.

Participants involved in the Joint Expert Coordination Committee from the AUC include: Departments of Economic Affairs, Rural Economy and Agriculture, Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (CIDO), Peace and Security, Trade and Industry, Infrastructure and Energy, Political Affairs and Strategic Policy and Planning Monitoring, Evaluation and Resource Mobilization.

The expected outcomes of the Expert Coordination meetings include:

  • A draft of recommendations and decisions which will be discussed at the next Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration for decision making.
  • Establish consensus on Africa’s process of integration.
  • Review progress made by RECs in the integration process and their respective challenges and propose some solutions.
