Addis Ababa, 19 May 2018 – H.E. Mr. William Azumah Awinador-Kanyrige, Ambassador of Republic of Ghana paid a farewell visit to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, on 19th May 2018.

Amb. William Azumah served his country in Ethiopia and the African Union (AU) for nearly a year. ‘My tenure comes to an end. It has been such a good experience. I am particularly grateful for your leadership and for the support of your staff during my stay.’ Then, he added in response to the call of the Chairperson to celebrate Africa Day each year on 25th May: ‘Ghana is in preparation for this celebration. We will continue to advocate for our Continental institution.’

H.E. Moussa Faki thanked Amb. Azumah for his excellent work and commitment to the AU’s agenda, despite his short stay in Addis Ababa. He especially commended his accomplishment of having Ghana as one of the first two Member States to ratify the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). The Chairperson concluded by “as an African militant there is no rest for you, the AU would like to count on Africans of your caliber and on Ghana to pursue this vision.”

At the end of the ceremony, the Chairperson of the AU Commission gave Amb. William Azumah, a certificate and a Pin in appreciation for his good service to the African Union.
