The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has arrived in New York to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).

While in New York, the Chairperson will hold high-level engagements, including a meeting with the UN Secretary-General, to further strengthen the partnership between the African Union and the United Nations.

He will also join Africa’s heads of states and government to highlight Africa’s leadership and agency in addressing peace and security challenges, with a focus on mediation efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, the Sahel, and stabilisation initiatives in Somalia.

In addition, the Chairperson, and his delegation. will engage global partners to promote investment and trade opportunities that can accelerate Africa’s development and advance the AU’s Agenda 2063.

The African Union is committed to ensuring that Africa’s priorities remain at the centre of the global agenda.
