At the opening session of the 48th AU Executive Council, AUC Chairperson H.E. @ymahmoudali underscored “the urgency of institutional reform, & the imperative of peace and development on the continent” ahead of the 39th AU Assembly.

On #Water & sanitation; this year’s theme, he stressed that it “must be protected as a shared resource & a driver of cooperation” amid #climatechange.

“Reforms are advancing under the 2024–2028 Plan,” he added, including progress on the peace & security architecture, sustainable financing, & institutional strengthening.

While noting that “Gabon & Guinea have returned to constitutional order,” he cautioned that “instability & terrorism persist in parts of the continent.”

He reaffirmed that “#AfCFTA & AU institutions remain central to driving integration,” backed by innovative financing & stronger partnerships with Africa’s private sector & civil society.

He concluded by affirming that “Focused leadership & strategic priorities will define our success.”

The Chairperson thanked the Republic of Angola for her leadership of the Executive Council. Angola is the current Chair of the AU.
