The Common African Position (CAP) on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is a unified strategic framework that was adopted by the African Union member states to address the significant burden of NTDs on the continent. It outlines a strategic vision to control, eliminate, and eradicate these diseases by 2030, aligning with the global targets set by the World Health Organization. The Common African Position emphasizes a multi-sectoral approach, integrating efforts across health, education, water, sanitation, and hygiene sectors to tackle the root causes of NTDs. It also calls for increased domestic resource mobilization, enhanced surveillance systems, and strengthened community engagement to ensure sustainable progress.

Furthermore, the Common African Position recognizes the importance of regional collaboration and partnership with international organizations, Regional Economic Communities, Regional Health Organizations, research institutions, and pharmaceutical companies to accelerate scientific research and development for new diagnostics, treatments, and vaccines for NTDs. It emphasizes the need for equitable access to quality and affordable medicines and interventions, ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against NTDs. By adopting this comprehensive and integrated approach, the Common African Position aims to improve the health and well-being of African populations and the socio-economic development as guided by the Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
